I had a question as I noticed this week when ordering beef from Grandview Farms that it now reads "grain finished".

I don't recall seeing this in the past and am curious what exactly that means? Has this always been....

Danny, good question. Grandview beef products have always been labeled grass-fed, grain-finished, this is their practice. The cows are raised in pasture, and spend most of their life grazing pasture and eating grass. However, the grass based diet can have negative effects on flavor, so it is a common practice to "finish" the cow on grain. This helps to filter out the "gamey" flavor that the meat can pick up on a diet including wild onion, garlic, etc. in the pasture. It also allows for a slight marbleizing of the meat, which improves flavor. We do also offer 100% grass-fed beef from Green Acres Ranch. Their products are labeled 100% grass-fed, as they do not use the grain finishing phase. I hope this helps!
