What is Papa Spud’s all about?

Papa Spud’s was started to connect Triangle residents with a growing network of local and/or sustainable farmers and their products. We provide our members with easy, yearlong access to these growers and their products via our online ordering system and home delivery infrastructure.

It’s a unique system that provides Triangle residents with a very flexible, easy to use, and affordable way to enjoy the fresh, local, sustainable, and diverse farm-raised products.

Papa Spud’s is also a valuable resource for local farmers offering them a stable, yearlong demand for their products – as well as a fair price for their labors by cutting out the supermarket middle-man.

Do I have to make a time commitment to using your service?

There is no time commitment to using Papa Spud’s, you are free to cancel the service at any time. We hope that you will stick with us for as long as you find the service valuable and a good fit for you and your family – whether that’s 1 week or a lifetime!

What if I am not at home when delivery arrives?

You do not need to be home when delivery arrives – in fact most of our members are not. We will leave your delivery on the front porch (or another location if you prefer) in our insulated boxes with ice packs, and you can take it inside when you return.

What if I don’t want a delivery every week, are there less frequent delivery options?

Our system is currently set-up for weekly or every other week deliveries to all our members. However, your online userpage gives you the option to place deliveries on hold for up to 8 weeks in advance with a click of a button, for whatever reason. Many of our members use this feature to limit their deliveries to monthly, or even more sporadically depending on their particular needs. You only pay for deliveries that you receive. We also send out reminder emails every Friday to let you know that you are scheduled to receive a delivery from us the following week – this way delivery day does not sneak up on you.

What if I live outside of your delivery area?

Our delivery area is outlined on this page: delivery area. If you find yourself outside of this area, please still feel free to send us an email with your address. If you are just barely outside of the area, we will see if we can make an exception. If you are a further outside the area, we can add your contact information to our records, and let you know when we do expand to your area.

How do you keep your deliveries cool during the warmer months?

All of our deliveries are packaged in insulated, waxed boxes, with ice packs to protect their contents from the heat and elements.

What type of products do you offer?

We currently offer a wide variety of seasonal fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy, baked goods, specialty products, and even recipe kits from farms and providers around North Carolina. We offer both certified organic and conventionally grown local products. We work with a few out-of-state suppliers to offer out of season organic products, so that members can supplement their local selections with fruits and veggies that aren’t available in-state. You can view all items currently offered through the following link: browse order system.

Do you have a guarantee on your products?

Yes, if you are unhappy with any of the items that you receive in your deliveries, you can report them with a click of a button through your userpage, and we will issue a full credit for that item. We work very hard to only offer the highest quality products available, but when working with perishables like produce things do slip through the cracks from time to time, and we hope that you will communicate those inconsistencies back to us, so that we can credit you and we can further improve our processes and quality control.

What should I do if an item in my delivery is damaged, or does not live up to my expectations?

Simply report it to us through your userpage (userpage), and we will issue a full credit for that item. We take quality very seriously, and do not expect you to pay for anything that you are not happy with.

What do you offer during the winter months?

Even during the winter months, there are a surprising number of local products available. We supplement these offerings with regional produce from southeast (mainly Florida), and some items from further out-of-state. Our breads, cheeses, and other specialty products are available year-round. Starting November 2009, we will offer locally raised meats year-round as well. Overall, it’s surprisingly easy to support and enjoy locally raised products year-round. Additionally, it’s extremely beneficial for all parties to expand the demand for these products from May-September to 12 months out of the year – supply has and will continue to respond.

How do your prices compare to the grocery store?

On average our prices are equal to or slightly cheaper than grocery store prices when comparing similar products (organic when organic, and local when local). It’s a pretty good deal when you consider our prices include packaging and delivery, and the variety of products we offer that simply can’t be found in a supermarket environment. You can compare prices for yourself by looking through our current offerings (browse order system).
