Baby Goats at Black River Farmstead

Goat Cheese |
January and February mark nursing time again at Black River Farmstead in Ivanhoe, NC. This is the time of year when the goats give birth, and devote the majority of the efforts to nursing and raising the next generation of baby goats. Tinker of Black River Farmstead explained that this is a fun and exciting time for them, but that it's also a lot of work and a little stressful! The baby goats require a lot of close attention. Goat milk production actually declines significantly during this time, when the majority of the goat milk goes to the baby goats, as well as all of the mother's attention. By February to March, things will begin to normalize again, but right now there's a lot of activity in goat country!
