Some folks have been asking about local Turkeys and Hams for the holidays. Unfortunately, due to the large size of these products, and the packaging that would be required to deliver them at safe temperatures, we do not feel that we can offer them at a good value. However, we would love to direct you to two of our farm partners, from whom you can purchase these products directly.
Cozi Farm (Turkeys):
We are raising broad-breasted whites ($5.50/lb) and bronzes ($6/lb). They are moved every other day to a fresh 1/4 acre of pasture, and ranging a lot and getting quite beautiful. The broad-breasted whites are a plump bird with a lot of white meat. The bronzes have a narrower breast and more dark meat.
A $25 deposit reserves a bird: Checks made payable to Cozi Farms 4500 Lloydtown Rd Mebane NC 27302-8218. Please include your email/phone number with your reservation.
Birds will range in size from 12-22+ lbs., although many of the smallest birds are spoken for and most birds will be in the 15-20 lb range. It's very possible we will have more smaller ones, it's just difficult to know until we harvest them. We will do our very best (and expect to be able) to accommodate size/type requests, and it will be on a first-come, first-served reservation basis. Pickup will be the weekend prior to Thanksgiving. Rainbow Meadow Farm (Hams):
The Pridgens have sold out of Turkeys, but still have holiday hams available. Smoked hams are priced $7.50/lb. and fresh hams are $6.50/lb. Sizes range from 4-5 lbs. Reservations can be made by phone (252-747-5000) or email (rainbowfarms@esn.net). Once the reservation has been made, the ham can be picked up at the State Farmers Market the weekend before Thanksgiving (Nov.18,19, and 20).
