Having grown up in Ireland since the age of 9, Peter Walker moved back to the US with his wife and 4 small children in the summer of 2007. On the side of a career in Social Work, Peter started a small coffee roasting venture in Cary, NC: Shady Arbour®. Locally and manually roasted, Shady Arbour coffee is 100% Fair Trade Organic – this helps to protect both the farmer and the product. Shady Arbour coffee is roasted and packaged as ‘single origins’ rather than blends – this way you know exactly what you are drinking and enjoying, e.g. ‘Peru Norte’ or ‘Sidamo Oromia’ from Ethiopia. After each roast the coffee is cooled and immediately packaged in high quality, re-sealable bags, complete with freshness valves.

The name of the company derives from Jean Jacques Rousseau’s ‘Confessions’ (1782), in which he tells of a café he came across in the hills of France named ‘Shady Arbour’ (translated from the French). The logo was an original design by Irish Artist, Noel Brennan, based on the company name.
