The greenhouse environment allows growers to cultivate specialty cucumber varieties that have some advantages over field cucumbers. Greenhouse varieties have thinner skins, and are typically smaller which means they have smaller and fewer seeds. The controlled environment produces much more uniform fruit, without much fear of pests or disease, giving the cucumbers a "perfect" gourmet look. They are a delicious treat to enjoy, as we wait for the bounty of cucumbers to start coming out of local fields!
