Local, Small-batch Cheeses

Orrman's cheese shop will be providing us with expert recommendations each week of new cheeses and varieties for us to try, and will be cutting those cheeses down into manageable and affordable quantities for our members to enjoy!

Calvander (Chapel Hill Creamery): Calvander is an aged, sharp cheese, similar to an Asiago or other Italian inspired cheese. A nice sharp cheese to enjoy on a cheese plate, or can be used over salads or pasta, as you would enjoy a nice parmesan cheese.

Campo (Boxcarr): Boxcarr Campo is a semi firm cheese, that is cold smoked to preserve its youthful fresh flavor and creaminess, and also impart a bold smoky flavor. This buttery cheese has big flavors as a result of the cold smoking, and it considered a great meat substitute for vegetarians. Goes very well with fruit and tomatoes.

Carolina Moon (Chapel Hill Creamery): Chapel Hill Creamery's North Carolina take on a Camembert Cheese. This soft-ripened cheese can be enjoyed as you would a nice brie. A delicious buttery, mushroom-y flavor, with a rich, creamy texture. Enjoy with a crunchy baguette, with crackers, or with preserves or thinly sliced fruit. Carolina Moon can also be baked as you would a baked brie.

Snow Camp (Goat Lady Dairy): Named after one of the first settlements in central North Carolina, Snow Camp is a mixed cow & goat milk bloomy rind cheese. Released at only two weeks, the cheese has lush cream-like and butter flavors that deepen as the cheese ripens. Snow camp goes very nicely over crackers on a cheese plate, or with preserves.
