Local Asparagus
For the second week, we have local Asparagus (organic & conventional) on the order page. Asparagus is
a springtime delicacy and the season is just getting started in North Carolina. The best asparagus is
fresh and that means LOCALLY grown. Asparagus loses edible qualities rapidly after harvest and quickly
develops fiber. Most grocery store asparagus is trucked in from Mexico or California and that means it
has spent days in a truck enroute to you. Our asparagus comes from local farms in eastern NC, and is
as fresh as you can get without growing it yourself. There are lots of ways to prepare asparagus, but
the simplest cooking may be the best! Just steam them just until they sag and then dress them with good
olive oil, lemon juice and coarse salt!
